Ubisoft launches final free update for Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Ubisoft released the last title update (1.1.11) for Assassin’s Creed Shadows on 16 June 2026, with the Switch 2 version arriving on 19 June. The free patch adds a new story quest called “Black Tides” (also referred to as “Mareas Negras”), which concludes the saga of protagonists Naoe and Yasuke. In the mission two elite Templars known as the Black Cross hunt the duo in Japan; players must have completed the main campaign and the earlier free updates “A Critical Encounter” and “A Puzzlement”, but the paid DLC Claws of Awaji is not required.
A new end‑game mode, “Domains”, offers five arenas each with ten escalating challenge levels, requiring level 30 and rewarding exclusive gear, weapons and engravings. A new Animus Rift called “Horizon” and two crossover projects, “Riptides” and “Undertow”, link the update to the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced (scheduled for 9 July 2026), unlocking themed outfits and other rewards across both games.
The patch also brings quality‑of‑life tweaks, bug fixes and performance improvements, including GPU optimisations for the Switch 2 handheld version. Patch sizes vary by platform (≈26 GB on Xbox Series X|S, 10 GB on PS5, 21.7 GB on PC, 9.5 GB on Switch 2). Associate Game Director Simon Lemay‑Comtois described the new story chapter as the game’s “real ending.”
