Ubisoft sees player surge for Assassin's Creed Odyssey after 'The Odyssey' film release
Ubisoft reported a sharp rise in activity for its 2018 action‑RPG Assassin's Creed Odyssey following the July 17 theatrical debut of Christopher Nolan's film The Odyssey. Alinea Analytics data showed daily Xbox players jump from 36,000 to 84,000 (a 134 % increase), with PlayStation and Steam also posting gains of 94 % and 26 % respectively. Overall active players across Xbox, PlayStation, and Steam grew from about 122,000 to 233,000 within ten days.
The boost coincided with the game's availability on subscription services such as Xbox Game Pass and Ubisoft+, and Ubisoft amplified the trend on social media by linking the film and game. While player numbers surged, the increase did not translate into comparable sales growth. Brazilian coverage highlighted the same metrics and noted the potential for a future "Odyssey Resynced" update, underscoring the lasting appeal of the Greek‑ancient setting shared by both the game and the film.
