Ubisoft Targets Digital Savings as Sony Ends PlayStation Disc Production by 2028

Sony announced it will cease manufacturing new PlayStation discs starting January 2028. Ubisoft’s chief financial officer, Frédérick Duguet, said the move reduces reliance on the secondary‑market for used discs but presents an opportunity for digital sales to expand the overall market size. He noted that the PC market shows digital distribution can increase volume and that hardware costs could decline when consoles are built solely for digital use, making them more accessible.

Ubisoft expects a mixed operational impact, with net bookings down 9 % year‑on‑year, and will focus on cost‑effective digital setups in its second‑half planning while monitoring competitive pressures.
