Ubisoft's Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake Scores Massive Sales and Technical Praise
Ubisoft released Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, a full remake of the 2013 title, on 9 July 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. The project was led by Ubisoft Singapore, involved more than 200 developers over three years and runs on the updated Anvil engine, supporting ray‑tracing, multiple up‑scaling methods and frame‑generation. Reviewers highlighted the exceptionally high visual fidelity – dense vegetation, sharp textures, realistic lighting and water rendering – and reported short load times with no crashes during testing.
The remake retained the original pirate‑hero Edward Kenway’s story while adding new side missions and a present‑day “Animus Hub” linking it to Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Gameplay was praised as good, with intuitive climbing, combat and sailing systems, though PC menu navigation felt unusual. Commercially, the game sold over three million copies in its first week and peaked at 100 000 concurrent players on Steam, providing a strong boost for Ubisoft, which has been facing financial difficulties and is banking on remakes to improve its fortunes. An accompanying artbook of more than 150 pages showcases concept sketches, 3‑D models and developer commentary, further enriching the release.
