Ubisoft's Beyond Good & Evil 2 shifts to solo-first focus

Ubisoft's Beyond Good & Evil 2 remains in the pre-production phase nearly 18 years after its initial announcement. Reports indicate that the project, which involves approximately 250 developers at Ubisoft Montpellier, is currently attempting to reach internal alpha status.

The game has undergone significant conceptual shifts. Originally envisioned as a highly multiplayer, live-service title intended to serve as a digital meeting place for friends, the project has been rebooted. The latest iteration is reportedly a ‘solo first’ adventure with an optional cooperative mode, moving away from the previous multiplayer-centric vision.

Internal sources suggest the project has faced challenges due to constant re-evaluations of its vision and direction. While the development has been lengthy, the team is reportedly working toward an alpha stage that would lead into full production.
