Ubisoft's Ghost Recon and Far Cry projects hit by development crisis and layoffs
Ubisoft’s upcoming tactical shooter, internally codenamed Project OVR (Ghost Recon), failed to meet its internal Alpha milestones. The shortfall prompted the company to install senior producer Bruno Galet and put VP of Production Jean‑Baptiste Duval and VP of the Global Creative Office Julien Sansalone on the Paris studio floor daily. Developers reported unrealistic deadlines, poor planning and the prospect of a full reboot or cancellation, while up to 380 employees faced possible layoffs.
The same production problems are reported to be affecting the next Far Cry sequel, indicating a systemic issue across Ubisoft’s flagship franchises. Recent cost‑cutting measures, including the closure of Ubisoft Winnipeg, underscore the pressure on the publisher to meet investor revenue expectations despite the internal turmoil.
