uBlock Origin functionality changes due to Manifest V3 transition
The transition of Chromium-based browsers toward Manifest Version 3 (MV3) is impacting the functionality of popular ad-blocking extensions like uBlock Origin. Because MV3 limits the ability of extensions to intercept requests, the original uBlock Origin is losing its core functionality in browsers such as Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome.
In response to these technical changes, the tool has been split into two versions: the full uBlock Origin, which primarily works in Firefox, and uBlock Origin Lite, designed for Chromium-based browsers and Safari. While the Lite version offers different filtering levels—including a ‘Basic’ mode that minimizes data access—it lacks the granular control and request-interception capabilities of the original version.
Users have reported increased ad visibility in Microsoft Edge following these changes, leading some to migrate to alternative browsers like Brave to maintain effective ad blocking.
