Uborak landfill agricultural analysis completed

The Federal Institute for Agriculture and the Federal Agrometeorological Institute have completed the analysis of agricultural product samples collected near the Uborak landfill near Mostar. The official results are currently awaiting publication by the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Marko Ivanković, Director of the Federal Agrometeorological Institute, stated that samples were collected within a 300-meter radius north and south of the landfill. A larger number of samples were taken south of the site, as winds primarily blew in that direction during a major landfill fire in late June.

The analysis focused on crops including peppers, grapes, figs, chard, and eggplant, as well as fruits requested by local citizens from their own properties. The testing aimed to detect the presence of heavy metals, such as arsenic, lead, and cadmium, to determine if the June fire caused contamination of local agricultural products.
