UBP leader Savaşan calls for two-state solution in Cyprus
Ahmet Savaşan, General Secretary of the National Unity Party (UBP), has asserted that a permanent solution to the Cyprus issue must be based on a two-state model rooted in sovereign equality and equal international status.
Savaşan criticized the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) for its continued support of a federation model, arguing that decades of negotiations have failed to produce results. He noted that the Crans-Montana process demonstrated that the federation model is no longer viable. Savaşan emphasized that there are two distinct peoples, two democratic wills, and two separate states on the island.
The UBP leader also referenced Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s recent address to the United Nations General Assembly, where Erdoğan called for the international community to recognize the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and establish political, diplomatic, and economic relations with it.
