UBTech to launch $20,000 humanoid home robot in China

UBTech Robotics Corp. announced that its new humanoid robot, priced at $20,000, will be offered for home use later this year. The company aims the device at China’s aging population, saying it can assist with tasks such as cleaning, cooking and waste disposal. UBTech’s brand manager Michael Tam told Bloomberg that “home companion robots are valuable in China due to rising elderly care needs.” The firm expects to ship roughly 1,000 units in 2025 and plans to increase production ten‑fold by 2026, though the first models will have limited capabilities.

The robot enters a market where other humanoid platforms, such as Tesla’s Optimus, are projected to cost between $20,000 and $30,000 and industrial versions from companies like BYD and Foxconn sell for about $100,000. UBTech hopes the lower‑priced home model will meet growing demand for personal‑care automation in China.
