UBTech unveils ultra‑realistic U1 companion robot for singles and seniors in China
Chinese robotics company UBTech launched its U1 series humanoid companion robot on June 30, 2026. The full‑size, ultra‑realistic device features silicone skin, a soft voice and an AI‑driven emotional model that listens 24 hours a day, detects fatigue or stress and offers comforting words. It can remind users to take medication, monitor health indicators and suggest clothing, but it does not perform household chores. Prices range from 119,800 yuan to 990,000 yuan (approximately US$ 91 k to US$ 753 k). The robot is offered in male and female versions and can be customized to resemble loved ones, celebrities or other characters.
UBTech targets roughly 120 million single adults and 320 million elderly people in China, groups it says face high levels of social isolation. The launch comes as China dominates the global humanoid‑robot market, accounting for about 85 % of installations in 2025, and it is a strategic priority in the country’s 2026‑2030 five‑year plan. Analysts estimate the Chinese humanoid‑robot market could grow from US$ 2 billion in 2026 to US$ 15 billion by 2030. Critics warn that constant interaction with such devices may deepen loneliness and raise privacy concerns; UBTech says all user data are encrypted and will not be used to train other AI models.
