Çubuk district launches first cucumber harvest for famed pickles
The season’s inaugural cucumber harvest for the renowned Çubuk pickles began in Aşağı Çavundur neighbourhood of Çubuk, Ankara. District Governor Vehbi Bakır, Mayor Baki Demirbaş, Çubuk Agricultural Chamber President Orhan Gülle, officials from the District Agriculture and Forestry Directorate and the local muhtar joined farmers in the fields to collect the first crop.
Mayor Demirbaş told journalists that the "green gold" cucumber is a geographically‑protected, patented product with high added value, and that annual production is rising, bolstering both farmers’ incomes and the district’s economy. He highlighted that festivals and promotional events have steadily expanded the pickles’ recognition in domestic and foreign markets. The district governor expressed satisfaction in participating in the harvest, while muhtar Abdullah Esre stressed that the quality of the water sources is crucial for the cucumbers’ grade.
