Çubuk summer pear harvest begins with 200-ton yield expected

The summer pear harvest has commenced in Kuruçay village, located in the Çubuk district of Ankara. Producers expect a total yield of approximately 150 to 200 tons from the region's 1,500 pear trees spread across 40 decares of land.

While the season is described as bountiful, farmers noted that the fruit sizes are smaller than desired due to the lingering effects of agricultural frost experienced last year. Lokman Öztürk, President of the Kuruçay Village Association and a local producer, stated, "The summer pear season is fruitful and good this year... But they are not at the desired size."

The harvest involves several varieties, starting with Akça, followed by Bahçe, Melamiş, and Dikenli. The harvested pears are being distributed to major markets, primarily in Ankara and Istanbul, with current prices ranging between 80 and 120 TL per kilogram. Due to high labor costs and a shortage of workers, much of the harvesting is being carried out by family members.
