Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS released, opening upgrade path from 24.04

Canonical has released Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS, also known as ‘Resolute Raccoon’, the first point release for the current long-term support series. This update provides refreshed installation media that integrates security patches, bug fixes, and software updates accumulated since the original April launch. This reduces the amount of post-installation work required for new users.

A major milestone of this release is the opening of the upgrade path from Ubuntu 24.04 LTS to Ubuntu 26.04 LTS. While the upgrade path is now available, Canonical may offer the automatic update through the Update Manager a few weeks after the initial release to ensure stability and address specific regressions.

The release focuses on stability rather than new major features or a new hardware enablement stack. A new hardware stack is expected in the 26.04.2 LTS release. Desktop improvements include fixes for the GNOME Shell, Wayland, and various UI issues such as cursor behavior and popup menus. The update is also available for official flavors including Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, and others.
