UC San Diego Health and West Health launch $40M care accelerator

UC San Diego Health and West Health have launched the West Health Accelerator, a six-year, $40 million initiative aimed at developing a new model for coordinated and reliable patient care. The program seeks to address rising demand and strained hospital capacity within the American healthcare system, particularly as the demographic shift toward an aging population increases the need for accessible, personalized care.

The initiative will begin operations in San Diego across UC San Diego Health’s three hospitals and its expanding network of clinics. The goal is to create a tech-forward national model for healthcare delivery that can eventually be shared with health systems across the United States. The program focuses on improving how patients navigate referrals, specialist transitions, post-procedure recovery, and ongoing care management.
