UC Santa Barbara women’s basketball wins season opener

The UC Santa Barbara women’s basketball team secured a dominant 101-26 victory over NCAA Division III UC Santa Cruz in their regular-season opener at the Thunderdome. The Gauchos shot 61.7% from the field and made 14 of 25 three-point attempts during the rout.

Freshmen Karisma Flores and Sarah Heyn led the scoring efforts, combining for 31 points in their collegiate debuts. Flores contributed 14 points, while Heyn recorded a game-high 17 points. Other notable performances included senior Zoe Borter, who shot 4-for-4 from the field, and transfer Naomy Zonzon-Huyghe, who tallied 15 points.
