UCCAEP demands separation of energy reform and education funding debates

The Costa Rican Union of Chambers and Associations of the Private Sector (UCCAEP) has expressed strong opposition to the conditioning of energy reform negotiations. The organization is calling for the separation of the debate regarding the National Electrical System Harmonization Law (expediente 23.414) from discussions concerning the Special Fund for Higher Education (FEES).

UCCAEP argues that energy security and education are distinct national priorities that require independent, technical decisions. The business group urged the National Liberation Party (PLN) to reconsider its stance, as the party has reportedly linked its participation in electrical reform talks to the government's decision regarding budget cuts for public universities. UCCAEP maintains that modernizing the electrical system is an urgent necessity to ensure a reliable supply, promote clean energy, and foster investment.
