UCF upsets No. 2 BYU 39-31 in double overtime
Unranked UCF secured the largest victory in program history by defeating No. 2 BYU 39-31 in a double-overtime thriller in Orlando. Backup quarterback Keyone Jenkins led the Knights with 293 passing yards and three touchdowns, including a decisive two-yard touchdown pass to tight end Grayson Brousseau in the second overtime.
The game was marked by significant officiating controversy. In regulation, a replay review overturned a fumble call to an incomplete pass, and an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against BYU allowed UCF to attempt a game-tying field goal. After BYU blocked the initial attempt, a 10-second runoff rule—applied after kicker Will Stone’s helmet was knocked off—forced the game into overtime.
In the first overtime, BYU’s Bear Bachmeier connected with Legend Glasker for a touchdown, which Jenkins answered with a 25-yard scoring pass to Josh Derry. In the second overtime, UCF extended their lead via the Brousseau touchdown and a two-point conversion to Tyren Hornes. The Knights' defense then stopped BYU on fourth down to seal the win, ending the Cougars' undefeated season.
