Uche Nnaji granted passport release for medical treatment amid forgery trial

The Federal High Court in Abuja has released the international passport of Uche Nnaji, the former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, to allow him to seek medical treatment abroad. Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted the application, though the criminal proceedings against him remain ongoing.

Nnaji faces a six-count charge brought by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The allegations include certificate forgery regarding a University of Nigeria, Nsukka degree and an NYSC discharge certificate, as well as corruption and abuse of office. The ICPC further alleges that Nnaji unlawfully received approximately ₦29.58 million in salaries and allowances between August 2023 and October 2025.

Nnaji has pleaded not guilty to all charges. He was previously granted bail in the sum of ₦20 million. The trial has been adjourned, with proceedings set to continue on September 21, 2026.
