UCK WUM hospital faces scrutiny over private funeral home allegations
The University Clinical Center of the Medical University of Warsaw (UCK WUM), commonly known as the hospital on Banacha, is facing scrutiny following allegations of unethical practices involving a private funeral home.
Reports indicate that the hospital leased its morgue and adjacent facilities to Dom Pogrzebowy Nadzieja, a private business owned by Patrycja Kinaszczuk, which was registered only two days before the lease began. Investigations suggest that the private entity was actively soliciting grieving families to use its services.
Under a specific procedure, relatives were reportedly required to visit the morgue to identify bodies and obtain certificates from Nadzieja employees before receiving death certificates. During these interactions, employees allegedly provided contact information to encourage the use of their funeral services. While Polish law prohibits the advertising or offering of funeral services within medical facilities, UCK WUM has stated it is unaware of any such promotion occurring in its morgue.
