UCLA football coach Bob Chesney wins Big Ten midseason awards

UCLA head coach Bob Chesney has been named the Big Ten coach of the year in midseason awards by Associated Press writers. The Bruins, which were projected to finish 13th in the 18-team conference, currently hold a 5-0 record and are ranked No. 12 nationally.

Under Chesney, the program has seen significant transformation, including a roster overhaul featuring 46 transfers and 17 freshmen. The team leads the Big Ten in rushing yards per game, led by Wayne Knight. The Bruins recently snapped a 22-year road losing streak against Oregon with a 17-15 victory.

Despite the success, the team faces challenges following the injury to starting quarterback Nico Iamaleava during the Oregon game. The victory also follows a period of administrative turnover, including the firing of athletic director Martin Jarmond.
