UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava to undergo knee surgery

UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava will miss the remainder of the 2026 season following a severe left knee injury. The injury occurred during a game against Oregon on October 10, when Iamaleava was hit by defenders Bear Alexander and Jerry Mixon.

Head coach Bob Chesney confirmed that the injury is severe and requires surgery. Despite the loss of their starting quarterback, the No. 9 ranked Bruins have maintained an undefeated 6-0 record. Backup quarterback Ty Dieffenbach, a Cal Poly transfer, has led the team to victories over Oregon and Wisconsin since taking over the starting role.

Iamaleava recorded 982 passing yards, four touchdowns, and four interceptions in six games prior to the injury. His absence raises questions regarding his future, specifically whether he will return for another college season or enter the NFL draft following his rehabilitation.
