UCLG President meets CHAMP Co-Chairs on climate action
Uğur İbrahim Altay, President of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) and Special Envoy for Local and Regional Governments for COP31, held a video conference with the Co-Chairs of the Coalition for High Ambition Multilevel Partnerships for Climate Action (CHAMP) from Brazil and Germany.
The discussions focused on climate change mitigation and sustainable development goals. Key topics included CHAMP’s objectives for the 2026–2028 period, establishing institutional cooperation and high-level dialogue between UCLG and CHAMP, and increasing the visibility and participation of local and regional governments in the COP31 Antalya process.
Additionally, the meeting addressed improving cities' access to climate finance by developing investable local projects and strengthening connections with financial institutions. CHAMP, which includes 78 supporting countries including Turkey, aims to foster systematic cooperation between national governments and sub-national administrations regarding climate policy and financing.
