UCO defends custody of seized phone in Koldo case

The Central Operative Unit (UCO) of the Guardia Civil has informed the Audiencia Nacional that the mobile phone and SIM card seized from businessman Joseba Antxon Alonso have remained in police custody since their intervention.

This clarification follows concerns raised by Alonso, a partner in the company Servinabar 2000, regarding a roaming alert he received while in Navarra. The message suggested his device was located in France, which caused alarm as Alonso is subject to judicial precautionary measures preventing him from leaving Spain. The alert led to questions about whether the device or SIM card had been removed from police facilities.

The UCO stated that requesting a duplicate SIM card would render the original unusable, making it impossible for the device to connect and trigger such an alert. Agents suggested the message might have been a phishing attempt and advised Alonso against accessing any links within it.
