UConn football defeats Southern Miss 48-20
The UConn Huskies defeated Southern Miss 48-20 in their first road game of the 2026 season. The victory improves UConn's record to 2-1.
Quarterback Kalieb Osborne led the offense, completing 16 of 22 passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns, while adding two rushing touchdowns. Wide receiver Shamar Porter recorded a touchdown on a 38-yard scramble from Osborne during the opening drive. The Huskies maintained a dominant lead, reaching 41-6 by the middle of the third quarter before substituting depth players into the game.
The UConn defense contributed significantly with an early interception by Braedyn Moore and multiple three-and-out possessions. Southern Miss (1-2) struggled to find momentum, with their quarterback, Ethan Hampton, exiting the game in the second quarter due to a hand injury. Despite the win, UConn head coach Jason Candle noted that penalties remained an issue for the team.
