UConn Huskies rout Lafayette 56-7 in Jason Candle's debut

The UConn Huskies opened their season with a 56-7 victory over the FCS-member Lafayette Leopards, marking the first game under head coach Jason Candle. The win represented the third-largest margin of victory in program history.

Quarterback Kalieb Osborne led the offense, completing 19 of 26 passes for 265 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 92 yards and a touchdown. Other notable contributors included Trey Cornist, Kenji Christian, and Cyncir Bowers, who each recorded over 40 rushing yards and a touchdown. Javon Brown contributed 92 receiving yards and a touchdown on six catches.

UConn dominated the game statistically, outgaining Lafayette 671 to 209. The Leopards' lone score came late in the fourth quarter following a 75-yard drive. The Huskies, who added 87 players to the roster and returned only one starter, will next face Maryland on September 12.
