UCR leaders criticize Córdoba Governor over online gambling regulation
Opposition leaders from the UCR, including Rodrigo de Loredo and legislators Alejandra Ferrero and Brenda Austin, met with Cardinal Ángel Rossi at the Archbishopric to discuss the rise of online gambling among adolescents and youth.
Following the meeting, the UCR criticized Governor Martín Llaryora for failing to implement the regulatory decree for the recent reform of the online gambling law. The opposition is proposing measures to restrict gambling advertisements on social media and sports jerseys. They argue that the lack of regulation hinders essential controls regarding biometrics, prevention, and personal data protection.
The political tension coincides with the upcoming visit of Pope Leo XIV to Córdoba. De Loredo suggested that the papal visit should serve as an opportunity to translate the Church’s concerns into concrete public policies rather than remaining purely institutional. While the provincial government maintains that existing authorities have sufficient competence to manage the activity, the opposition continues to demand stricter regulatory frameworks.
