UD Almería and coach Rubi end five‑year partnership

Spanish club UD Almería announced that head coach Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicilia, known as Rubi, will leave after a cumulative five‑season tenure split into two periods (2020‑21 to 2022‑23 and 2024‑26). During his time, Rubi guided Almería to its first ever Segunda División championship in 2021‑22, securing promotion to La Liga, and later ensured the club’s survival in the top flight in the 2022‑23 season.

After the team’s relegation in 2023‑24, Rubi returned and led Almería to consecutive promotion‑playoff campaigns, reaching the semifinals in 2024‑25 (a loss to Real Oviedo) and the final in 2025‑26, where the club was edged out by Málaga. He departs as the most‑capped manager in the club’s history, with 187 matches in charge. The club thanked him for his professionalism and the milestones achieved under his leadership.
