Real Oviedo and Sporting de Gijón honor Ceuta during Asturian derby

Before the Asturian derby at the Carlos Tartiere stadium, Real Oviedo and Sporting de Gijón set aside their historical rivalry to pay tribute to the people of Ceuta. The ceremony featured the flags of both Ceuta and Asturias, accompanied by the Asturian anthem performed on the bagpipes by Guti, the Major Bagpiper of Real Oviedo.

The tribute was met with an ovation from the 28,826 spectators in attendance. Real Oviedo had previously announced its intention to show public support for both the city of Ceuta and AD Ceuta FC. The match also featured several sporting connections to the North African city, including players with past experience at AD Ceuta FC.

Regarding the match itself, Real Oviedo manager Julián Calero focused his tactical preparation on footballing quality rather than emotional intensity. Calero emphasized a strategy of ball control and technical play to secure the derby victory.
