Udelar land donation in Uruguay and UNAULA campus pact in Colombia boost regional higher education

The University of the Republic (Udelar) and the Intendencia of Colonia will sign a donation agreement on 30 July for the former Sudamtex factory site in Colonia del Sacramento. The land will host a new Southwest Region campus serving the departments of Colonia and Soriano, with structural renovations planned to begin in 2027 and the campus expected to admit students by 2028. The ceremony will be attended by Udelar rector Héctor Cancela, Intendencia president Liber Acosta, mayor Guillermo Rodríguez and other local officials.

In Marinilla, Antioquia, mayor Julio César Serna Gómez and UNAULA rector Marino de Jesús Cardona Duque signed a framework cooperation agreement to establish a university campus in the municipality. The pact aims to offer approximately 50 undergraduate, technical and postgraduate programmes, targeting students from low‑income strata and reducing the need to travel to other cities. The collaboration also includes joint projects in research, innovation, culture, sport and internationalisation, aligning higher‑education provision with the region’s recent economic and industrial growth.
