UDELAS requests B/. 70.7M budget as COE proposes worker relocation in Mexico

The Universidad Especializada de las Américas (UDELAS) has presented its 2027 fiscal year budget proposal of B/. 70.7 million to the National Assembly's Budget Commission in Panama. Rector Nicolasa Terreros Barrios stated that the funds are intended to support institutional operations, academic and scientific growth, and infrastructure development. Of the requested amount, B/. 63.1 million is allocated for operations and B/. 7.7 million for investment, including laboratory equipment, clinic upgrades, and construction projects in Coclé and Azuero.

In Mexico, the Consejo Nacional de Organismos Empresariales (COE) has proposed a plan to the Puebla government to mitigate the economic impact of recent layoffs at the Volkswagen plant. Following the loss of over 700 jobs, COE President César Bonilla Yunes suggested reallocating the highly skilled workforce to the production of the Olinia, a Mexican electric vehicle. The proposal also calls for tax incentives and training programs to protect local suppliers and maintain industrial competitiveness during Volkswagen's global restructuring.
