Udhampur Handicrafts Department launches carpet-weaving training for women

The Handicrafts Department has launched a carpet-weaving training centre in Christian Colony, Udhampur, to preserve traditional crafts and enhance local employment. Currently, 20 local women are participating in the program to learn traditional weaving and mat-making skills.

Trainees receive a monthly stipend during their course and will be awarded diplomas upon successful completion. To encourage entrepreneurship, the department offers financial support and loans to those interested in starting their own businesses.

In a related development within Jammu and Kashmir, women in the Budgam district are also expanding livelihood opportunities through Self-Help Groups under the Jammu and Kashmir Rural Livelihood Mission. These groups support various activities, including tailoring, food processing, and agriculture, helping women convert domestic skills into regular income.
