Udhayanidhi Stalin arrested, protests erupt in Tamil Nadu
Opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin was arrested in Chennai on allegations of making indecent remarks about a Tamil actress. The arrest triggered widespread protests by DMK members across several city neighborhoods, including road blockades in Nilaankarai, Porur, Kolathur, Ottiery and others. Police responded by filing more than 1,000 cases against participants, among them Mayor R. Priya and other senior party officials, and recorded injuries to seven police personnel during the clashes.
Earlier in the day, AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami mistakenly tried to enter Stalin's car inside the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly complex, recalling a similar incident that occurred years before. In the Assembly, Stalin had also spoken about the state’s agriculture budget, urging the opposition to respond. Actor and activist Sethan Akimsa publicly accused the state government of misusing police powers against political opponents following the arrest.
