Udine judge orders detention for Mohamed Koufi following murder confession

A judge in Udine has validated the arrest and ordered the pretrial detention of 32-year-old Mohamed Koufi, who has confessed to the murder of 65-year-old Abdellatif Bensefiyan. The killing occurred on a Friday evening in the Sant'Osvaldo district of Udine.

Investigators are considering two primary motives: financial disputes and the breakdown of a romantic relationship. Koufi had been involved in a relationship with the victim's sister, but the union could not proceed legally because Koufi is reportedly already married with five children in Morocco. Additionally, Koufi claimed to have paid a sum of money to the woman's family for a planned marriage that was never returned.

Authorities are also investigating the possibility of premeditation. Following the incident, Koufi fled the city but was apprehended by Carabinieri near the Basiliano railway station less than 24 hours later. The investigation remains ongoing to clarify the exact dynamics of the assault and the weapons used.
