Udinese coach backs Zaniolo as focal player while Zola considered for Italy national team role
Udinese manager Kosta Runjaic praised forward Nicolò Zaniolo after his contract renewal, describing the "number 10" shirt as a heavy responsibility and urging him to become a model for teammates on and off the pitch. Runjaic highlighted Zaniolo’s recent form, contributions in goals and assists, and his return to the national squad, stressing the need for the player to work intensively to reach optimal condition.
Separately, CONI president Giovanni Malagò confirmed that former Italian star Gianfranco Zola is being discussed for a position in the new FIGC structure linking the senior national team with the youth sector. Malagò said Zola would bring valuable experience and could act as a bridge between the senior side and younger representatives, adding expertise from his recent work with Serie C youth projects.
