Udinese draws 3-3 with Mainz, falls 1-0 to Trabzonspor in pre‑season

Udinese continued its Austrian pre‑season camp with two high‑profile friendlies. On 1 August the Friulian side faced German Bundesliga club Mainz in Mittersill, ending in a 3‑3 draw. Goals came from Davide Zaniolo and Davide Davis, while the defence struggled, conceding twice to Sheraldo Becker and once to a late Mainz effort. Coach Kosta Runjaic rotated the squad, giving minutes to newcomers and testing defensive options.

A week later, on 2 August, Udinese travelled to Velden to meet Turkish side Trabzonspor. The match was decided by a first‑half goal from Trabzonspor’s Muci, and Udinese were unable to equalise despite Zaniolo’s free‑kick attempts and several chances from the attacking trio of Buksa, Bayo and Gueye. The game was played in hot conditions, and Runjaic again used the fixture to assess squad depth before the Serie A season begins.
