UEFA expands yellow‑card suspension threshold to four in European competitions

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced rule changes for the 2026/27 season of its three main club tournaments – the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League. Starting next season, a player will be suspended after receiving four yellow cards in the competition’s group stage, rather than the previous three. Subsequent suspensions will follow every even‑numbered warning (sixth, eighth, tenth, etc.).

UEFA also altered stadium clock regulations: displays may now continue running through stoppage time and show either elapsed or remaining time, matching the practice already used in England’s Premier League and EFL. The changes aim to make disciplinary measures clearer and match‑time information more transparent for clubs and fans across Europe.
