UEFA leaders meet to discuss FIFA leadership and governance reforms

Senior football officials held meetings in Salzburg, Austria, to discuss the future leadership and governance of FIFA. The discussions involved UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin, European Club Association Chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi, and CAF President Patrice Motsepe.

Reports indicate that UEFA is exerting pressure on FIFA President Gianni Infantino to resign or withdraw from the upcoming presidential election. If Infantino refuses, Čeferin may lead a movement to call for a vote of no confidence, which would require the support of 43 member associations.

Proposed reforms aim to limit the powers of the FIFA presidency by establishing a continental rotation system for the office, similar to other major international institutions. Other measures under consideration include strengthening the executive structure with an independent administrative body and conducting independent reviews of FIFA's decision-making processes. Potential successors being discussed include CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani and AFC President Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa.
