UEFA President Čeferin Plans Boycott of 2029 Club World Cup

UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin is weighing a boycott of the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup and intends to discuss the plan with Nasser Al‑Khelaïfi, president of Paris Saint‑Germain and head of the European Club Association (ECA). The meeting is slated for 12 August during the UEFA Super Cup between PSG and Aston Villa. A boycott would require the backing of all 850 clubs that belong to the ECA, making consensus difficult.

The move follows a broader clash between UEFA and FIFA president Gianni Infantino over commercial projects and leadership ambitions. UEFA has also circulated letters to various stakeholders expressing dissatisfaction with Infantino’s recent actions. The 2029 tournament’s host nation, financing model and sponsors have not yet been confirmed, and no official club‑wide boycott decision has been made.
