UEFA proposes eleven-point reform to limit FIFA presidential power

UEFA and European football leagues are escalating their conflict with FIFA, seeking significant institutional reforms to limit the unilateral authority of FIFA President Gianni Infantino. During a meeting of its 55 member associations in Berlin, UEFA discussed an eleven-point reform package designed to curb the presidency's power ahead of the March 2027 global elections.

The dispute intensified following opposition to a proposed FIFA Forward Enterprise investment structure, which sought to involve private investors in major commercial assets. Although FIFA eventually abandoned the proposal, UEFA stated that the withdrawal did not restore confidence in Infantino's leadership. European officials have raised broader concerns regarding transparency, accountability, and the balance of power between FIFA and continental confederations.

As preparations for the March 18 election in Rabat, Morocco, continue, UEFA is reportedly drafting a profile for a potential challenger to Infantino. While Swiss former footballer Ramon Vega has expressed interest in running, it remains unclear if he will secure the necessary endorsements to qualify before the November 18 registration deadline.
