UEFA to honor Nepal flood victims during Champions League matches
UEFA has announced that all 18 Champions League matches scheduled for this week will include a tribute to the victims of the recent flash floods and landslides in Nepal. The tribute will consist of a minute of silence held before kickoff and the display of banners across European stadiums.
One unified banner will feature the message ‘Nepal, you are not alone’ to show solidarity with the affected population. UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin expressed condolences on behalf of the European football community, wishing strength and resilience to those recovering from the tragedy.
The disaster, which involved severe flooding and landslides, has resulted in more than 1,300 deaths and left thousands missing. This gesture follows previous UEFA tributes to victims of natural disasters in Morocco and Libya.
