UEFA prepares criminal complaint against FIFA's Gianni Infantino
UEFA is preparing a criminal complaint in Switzerland against FIFA President Gianni Infantino for alleged “criminal mismanagement.” The legal action stems from a failed proposal to privatize a portion of the commercial rights for future FIFA World Cups through a new entity called FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE).
The controversial plan sought to sell a 20% stake in the commercial entity to private investors for approximately $4.2 billion. UEFA contends this represented a significantly undervalued assessment of the rights, which could be worth much more. The primary intended investor was identified as Thrive Capital Management, a New York-based fund founded by Josh Kushner.
While Infantino withdrew the project on August 1, 2026, following intense international backlash, UEFA is pursuing further investigation. The European governing body has filed legal requests in Manhattan and Florida to secure documentation and evidence related to the deal and the involvement of the private investors. UEFA alleges the project was developed in secrecy and could have allowed a small circle of associates to profit at the expense of FIFA and its members.
