UEMOA Accountants Congress convenes in Benin
The 8th UEMOA Accountants Congress officially launched on October 21, 2026, at the Palais des Congrès in Cotonou, Benin. The regional gathering brings together over 350 participants from approximately 15 to 18 countries, including Benin, Togo, Burkina Faso, Niger, Mali, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Mauritania, and Gabon.
Themed “The Accountant, guarantor of transparency and financial sovereignty in the UEMOA space,” the event coincides with the 20th anniversary of the Order of Chartered Accountants and Certified Accountants of Benin (OECCA-Bénin). Discussions focus on the role of accounting professionals in state governance, corporate management, and resource mobilization.
Benin’s Minister of Economy and Finance, Aristide Medenou, highlighted the impact of professional auditing on public enterprise management, noting that public companies recorded a global surplus of 292 billion CFA francs at the end of 2025. Medenou emphasized that high-quality financial information serves as a lever for performance, tax base expansion, and investor attractiveness, while stressing the necessity of professional ethics and independence.
