UEMOA experts meet in Lomé to modernize public finance directives
Experts from the eight member states of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) have convened in Lomé, Togo, to begin revising the harmonized framework for public finances. The strategic meeting, hosted by the UEMOA Public Finance Observatory, aims to update community directives originally adopted in 2009 to address modern governance requirements and practical implementation challenges.
The revision seeks to enhance budgetary transparency, improve the reliability of public accounts, and ensure greater consistency across member states' financial management systems. The initiative also aims to improve data comparability between countries within the Union.
According to the 2026 annual review presented by UEMOA Commission representative Alioune Sène, the community-wide implementation rate for reforms stands at 77.98 percent. Togo has exceeded this average with an implementation rate of 87.12 percent.
