UEMOA reports 6% economic growth and adopts regional reforms
The West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) reports robust economic performance, with growth projected at approximately 6% for 2026. This resilience is driven by the services sector, agriculture, and the expansion of extractive industries and hydrocarbons in nations such as Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, and Niger.
During a recent Council of Ministers meeting in Dakar, regional leaders adopted two major initiatives: a directive to reform public procurement regulations to enhance transparency and governance, and a ten-year regional social protection strategy. Additionally, the REGIS-WA system was launched in partnership with the European Union and GIZ to harmonize energy data and accelerate the regional electricity market.
UEMOA officials emphasized the need for collective economic sovereignty and resilience against international geopolitical uncertainties. The organization is also moving forward with its ‘Impact 2030’ roadmap, which focuses on structural economic transformation through the development of priority ecosystems and energy hubs.
