UEMS reinforces ban on political activities following police incidents
The State University of Mato Grosso do Sul (UEMS) has reaffirmed its prohibition on using university facilities for political-party or electoral activities. This follows recent incidents involving police presence at campuses in Campo Grande and Paranaíba.
In Paranaíba, Councilman Sindoley Morais (PL) entered the campus accompanied by eight armed Military Police officers following a report regarding a supposed campaign banner. However, investigations indicated the image was an AI-generated fabrication circulating on student messaging groups rather than a physical banner on site. In Campo Grande, police entered a room during a student assembly following an anonymous report.
The UEMS rectorate stated it was not notified in advance about the police presence at either location. The university is currently reviewing police reports and incident logs to evaluate potential legal action. While reinforcing rules that prohibit political items such as stickers, hats, or shirts on campus during the election period, the institution emphasized its commitment to academic plurality and internal debate.
