Uerj hosts lecture on preservation of São José da Boa Morte ruins
Historian Rachel Wider conducted a lecture for archaeology professors and students at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (Uerj) regarding the preservation of the São José da Boa Morte ruins in Cachoeiras de Macacu.
The session, titled ‘São José da Boa Morte: caminhos de pesquisa entre o material e o simbólico’, focused on the history of the site, the cataloging of remaining structures, and the technical decisions required to consolidate the remains of the former church and its annexes.
Wider is a member of the Elysium Sociedade Cultural team, the organization responsible for the consolidation works. The project is being carried out in partnership with the City Hall of Cachoeiras de Macacu and is sponsored by Nova Transportadora do Sudeste (NTS) through the Culture Incentive Law. Consolidation efforts are expected to be completed in 2026.
