UFC President Dana White addresses Farid Basharat release

UFC President Dana White has clarified his recent comments regarding the release of undefeated bantamweight Farid Basharat. Following public outcry over Basharat's departure, White stated at a press conference in Abu Dhabi that his previous remarks about why fighters are not offered new contracts were intended as general observations rather than specific criticisms of Basharat.

Basharat left the promotion with a perfect 16-0 professional record, including seven victories inside the Octagon. The decision has sparked debate within the combat sports community, with commentator Joe Rogan criticizing the practice of releasing undefeated fighters due to their fighting style. Rogan argued that fighters should be allowed to utilize their skill sets to win, even if their approach is deemed less entertaining by the promotion.

Other fighters, including Muhammad Mokaev, have also questioned whether the UFC's approach discourages certain technical or wrestling-heavy styles in favor of more aggressive, fan-friendly competition.
