UFG inaugurates Multi-user Center for Omics Analysis of Biomolecules

The Federal University of Goiás (UFG) has inaugurated the Multi-user Center for Omics Analysis of Biomolecules (CMAS), linked to the Institute of Biological Sciences (ICB). The facility aims to advance research into biological molecules, including proteins, metabolites, and genomic studies, with applications in health, the environment, and biotechnology.

The laboratory is equipped with advanced technology, such as Orbitrap mass spectrometers, to facilitate proteomic and metabolomic analyses. These tools allow for the identification and quantification of compounds, supporting research into human pathogens, neurological studies, and drug development. The center intends to collaborate with various institutions, including Fiocruz and several other federal universities.

During the inauguration, Professor Célia Maria de Almeida Soares was honored for her contributions to molecular biology, with the center’s acronym reflecting her name. Coordinator Alexandre Bailão noted that the center will operate through two collaboration models: one where the center covers most costs for specific analyses, and another where users reimburse operational costs.
