UFG issues 448,000 notices for lack of mandatory insurance
The Insurance Guarantee Fund (UFG) has reported a significant increase in notices issued to drivers lacking mandatory third-party liability insurance. In 2025, the Fund issued approximately 448,000 notices, up from 351,000 the previous year. This figure includes both standard vehicle insurance and mandatory insurance for farmers.
Data indicates that the UFG identifies approximately 96% of these insurance gaps through its own database analysis, meaning drivers can be flagged and issued payment demands without ever being stopped by the police. The cost of driving without coverage is substantial; for a passenger car, a gap of just over two weeks can result in a fine of 9,610 PLN, while heavy vehicles like trucks or buses can face charges up to 14,420 PLN.
Experts warn that motorists, particularly those purchasing used vehicles from private sellers, must verify the exact expiration date of existing policies. Insurance does not automatically transfer or renew upon the sale of a vehicle, and the responsibility to maintain continuous coverage rests with the new owner.
